Volunteers Team Up for Innovative New Park

by McAllen Public Information | Oct 23, 2014

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department will host a work day for the Junior League of McAllen No Boundaries Play Park located at Morris Park (near Dr. Pablo Perez Elementary) on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Members of the McAllen Junior League, girl scouts and community members will be installing some of the equipment for the innovative new park. This will be the first phase of the project with other amenities such as sand and water to be added in the next year.

The park was made possible by a $75,000 grant awarded to the City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department through the Junior League of McAllen Inc.’s Anniversary Fund Grant. The playground will feature unique handicap accessible musical instruments, exercise equipment and play areas that will be wheelchair accessible.

While recreational venues throughout McAllen adhere to the standards set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), this will be the first park south of San Antonio, designed specifically with wheelchair accessible play areas.

If you'd like to sponsor additional equipment for the park, please contact the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department at (956) 681-3333.
