McAllen Marathon traffic advisory, more than 1600 runners registered

McALLEN –
On Sunday December 14, 2014 McAllen will host the 2nd Annual McAllen Marathon which includes a 26.2 mile full marathon, 13.1 mile half marathon or five person relay marathon adventure.

 This event continues to grow each year and will bring thousands of participants and spectators to the local area during the coming weekend. Some important information to know about the event and the possible impact to people in the McAllen area is below:

 • The race will begin at 7:00 am on Sunday December 14th and the course will be open for runners for a total of 7 hours during the day. Most affected roadways will be shut down starting at 5:30 a.m. race-day.

 The following streets will be closed:

-Buddy Owens (3 Mile Line) from 29th Street to Ware Road – 5am to 2pm

-Bicentennial Blvd. from Nolana Avenue to Trenton Road – 5am to 2pm

-Dove Avenue from 10th Street to 23rd Street – 5am to 2pm

-All other road closures will be temporary and will be opened once last runner passes by

Local law enforcement is asking the public to plan accordingly for possible delays due to this event throughout the day and to avoid traveling in impacted areas if possible. For any questions, please contact the McAllen Police Department at 956-681-2000.
