McAllen-
The City of McAllen held a press conference today for a big reveal regarding the third annual marathon. With late Commissioner Crane’s family and runners in attendance, Mayor Jim Darling announced the race was officially named the McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run.

“It’s really appropriate because of Scott’s enthusiasm for running,” said Mayor Jim Darling.  “He was a great citizen, a great civic leader and this is something he really loved.”

Crane, an avid long-distance runner, was pivotal in creating the McAllen Marathon.

“He would be so humbled by this, he was a visionary and he brought this to McAllen,” said Sasha Crane. “He saw what the city needed, and I’m grateful that the city continues to see what a great thing he did and they want to continue his vision.”

New to the event this year, is the addition of a 5k run which will take place the day before on Dec. 12. The McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run will include a 13.1 half marathon, 26.2 mile full marathon and a 5-person relay marathon adventure through the streets of McAllen. Scheduled for Sunday, December 13 the races will start and finish at the new McAllen Sports Park located at 3301 Buddy Owens Blvd.
