by Public Information Office | Jul 12, 2016

Hidalgo County Precinct #2, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the cities of McAllen, Pharr, and San Juan, will hold a PUBLIC MEETING to present the proposed Regional Linear Park Project from South 2nd Street in McAllen to South San Antonio Avenue in San Juan, Hidalgo County, Texas; a length of approximately 7.7 miles. The meeting details are as follows: July 27, 2016 Boys and Girls Club of Pharr 1026 S. Fir Street Pharr, Texas Exhibit Viewing Period: 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Presentation: 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to allow the public the opportunity to view the project details and provide comments. The proposed project is part of a regional plan to provide a connected, continuous hike and bike trail throughout Hidalgo County. The project is needed due to the lack of accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists in the area. The purpose of the Regional Linear Park Project is to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists and provide linkages to parks, schools and communities in the area. A 10-foot-wide hike and bike trail would be provided mostly along an existing varying 60 to 80-foot-wide city and county roadway Right-of-Way (ROW) and 128 to 270-foot-wide county drainage ROW; however, there are portions that would be constructed along a newly proposed 20-foot-wide ROW. As part of the proposed project, lighting, benches, landscape development, and other user amenities would be included. Parking lots would be constructed at the southeast corner of I Road, the southeast corner of Ridge Road, and the southeast corner of South McColl Road. Alternatives will be presented at the meeting for those areas of the hike and bike trail that would occur within the newly proposed ROW. The Preferred Alternative would require approximately 3.5 acres of additional ROW and relocations of residential or commercial properties are not anticipated. Information regarding Titles II and III of the Uniform Relocation Assistance Policy Act will be available at the meeting. Location maps and other information concerning this project will be available at the public meeting and at the L&G Engineering office located at 900 S. Stewart Road, Suite 3, in Mission Texas; please call (956)585-1909 to schedule an appointment.
