McAllen launches new electronic meters downtown

McAllen’s new electronic meters will be unveiled downtown July 14 at 9:30 a.m. downtown visitors will be greeted by ambassadors to provide step-by-step instruction for the new meters.

The Downtown Services Department installed 16 solar-powered parking stations on Main Street, from Business Highway 83 to Dallas Avenue. The new multi-space meters will provide users the option to pay for parking using a credit/debit card.

The multi-space meters are easy to use, enabling customers to purchase parking time by simply entering their license plate number. The meters will service multiple spaces, replacing 120 meters. The technology has the potential to increase occupancy, revenue, and accessibility of parking spaces in downtown McAllen.
