McAllen- The City of McAllen once again boasts the lowest unemployment rate in the Rio Grande Valley. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) recently released their June 2016 figures indicating that McAllen has an unemployment rate of 5.1 percent.

“The unemployment number for McAllen is one indication of our strong economy. McAllen, along with our neighboring city of Edinburg, traditionally lead our area in this important category,” said Mayor Jim Darling.

In the last year, several major job-creating projects have been launched in McAllen, which include three new hotels and multiple new restaurants.

McAllen city leaders are anticipating more job growth with ventures that include the La Plaza Mall expansion, the development of Tres Lagos, the new Texas A&M campus, the opening of the state of the art McAllen Performing Arts Center and ongoing partnership with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and South Texas College.
