The Museum of South Texas History (“MOSTHistory”), a museum chronicling the heritage of South Texas and Northeastern Mexico, announces its fourth annual Summer Nights at the Museum will be held this year at 7 p.m. on June 12, July 10 and August 7. During the three night series adventure the museum’s signature exhibition, Rio Grande Legacy, will come to life section by section, providing three different adventures through time for the whole family, a group outing or even a date night.
Each Summer Night follows a schedule of events that will promptly kick off at 7 p.m. with a puppet show — popcorn included — that tie in to the spotlighted exhibition section. Guests will want to ensure they arrive early to get their snack before show time. Following the puppet show, children will receive a game card to begin playing FIND ME IF YOU CAN, a quest to find the character, artifact or image that inspired the puppet characters. Once completed, the game card can be entered into a drawing for a prize to be awarded at the end of each night. If the children play the game each month, they will not only have three chances to win but also a chance to win a grand prize at the conclusion of Summer Nights at the Museum.
When the sun goes down, the museum will come to life. While children are on their quest, that evening’s spotlighted exhibition section will come alive through costumed interpreters talking about and demonstrating their everyday life. For “kids” of all ages there will be many hands-on activities including “Digging up History,” “Frontier Defense” and the ever popular “Atlatl Target Practice.” One of the new activities this year, “Treasure Chest,” is sure to be a fun challenge that brings out the competitive spirit in a race for the gold. Be sure to attend the entire Summer Nights series as each one is a different adventure. And, complete the game card for the series and qualify for an entry in the grand prize!

Admission to Summer Nights at the Museum is the regular admission price, passes excluded: $7 adults (ages 18+); $5 seniors with ID (ages 62+), students with ID (ages 13+); $4 children ages 4 to 12; free, children ages 3 and under. About Museum of South Texas History
The Museum of South Texas History is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It is located in downtown Edinburg at 200 North Closner Boulevard on the Hidalgo County Courthouse square. Hours of operation are from 1–5 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday. Founded in 1967 as the Hidalgo County Historical Museum in the 1910 Hidalgo County Jail, the museum has grown over the decades through a series of expansions to occupy a full city block. In 2003 following the completion of a 22,500 square foot expansion, the museum was renamed the Museum of South Texas History to better reflect its regional scope. Today, the museum preserves and presents the borderland heritage of South Texas and Northeastern Mexico through its permanent collection and the Margaret H. McAllen Memorial Archives and exhibits spanning prehistory through the 20th century.
