Flag-raising ceremonies at McAllen City Hall throughout September

In honor of Central America’s and Mexico´s Independence Day anniversaries, the City of McAllen, in collaboration with the Consulates of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, will be hosting a series of flag ceremonies, kicking off with today’s ceremony, raising the El Salvador national flag at McAllen City Hall and continuing with weekly events throughout September, honoring the different consulates that have become integral parts of McAllen.

The Consulates of Central America and Mexico are scheduled to rotate their national flags every week at McAllen City Hall and keep them full staff for three days. The subsequent consulate flag-raising ceremonies will be held for Guatemala on September 12; Honduras on September 18; and Mexico on September 25.  All ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. and are open to the public.

“Today, we joined our Consuls from Central America and Mexico to commemorate their Independence Days as we continue strengthening collaborative ties. Since their establishment in our city, we have developed solid relationships throughout the years, contributing to successful partnerships,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos.

“All foreign governments represented in our city play an essential role in shaping our international relations, and we are deeply grateful for their friendship and the invaluable contributions they make to our community,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E.

The consular offices of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico are not just symbols of their respective nations but are also vital service providers for the residents in McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley. They offer a range of emergency and non-emergency services to their nationals and actively promote culture, tourism, and education in the community.
