Amnesty to be offered by McAllen Municipal Court

by Office of Communications | Nov 01, 2024

No arrest, waived fees will await those who make arrangements for payment

Violators who received a citation for a class C misdemeanor and have failed to show up for their court date can now make arrangements to take care of their tickets without fear of being arrested or any additional fines.  The City of McAllen’s Municipal Court Failure to Appear Amnesty Program will run from November 1, 2024 to November 30, 2024.

If a person has received a citation in the City of McAllen and not yet made arrangements on the tickets, the “late fee” and any failure to appear charges will be waived if they make arrangements during the amnesty period.

Arrangements can be made by email at mcallenmunicipalcourt@mcallen.net; by mail at McAllen Municipal Court, 1601 N. Bicentennial Blvd., McAllen, TX 78501; or by phone at 681-2900 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If a person who has active warrants on citations in the City of McAllen presents themselves in person to the court during working hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and makes arrangements on those citations, the warrants will be withdrawn at that time without arrest.

“Offering amnesty to offenders is intended to bring individuals with outstanding citations to come into compliance with the city,” said presiding McAllen Municipal Court Judge Lauren Sepulveda. “Amnesty allows violators an opportunity to make arrangements on their citations without receiving additional fines, charges, and without fear of being arrested.”

Payment plans and community service opportunities in lieu of payment may also be available.

The mission of the City of McAllen Municipal Court is to handle violations in accordance with state law and city ordinances, and to see that every person is treated fairly. An individual who has received a ticket or citation from a McAllen peace officer, a McAllen I.S.D. peace officer, or a peace officer with South Texas College in McAllen needs to contact the City of McAllen Municipal Court to make arrangements to pay the fine or contest the violation. Fines may also be paid online at www.mcallen.net
