II. COLLEGE DEGREES/LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Positions requiring college degrees, licenses or certifications will be subject to verification.

College degrees must be from an accredited college or university sanctioned by the Office of the U.S. Secretary of Education.

Licenses and certifications must comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

III. FOREIGN EDUCATION

Foreign education credentials will be accepted for employment so long as they are translated into credentials accepted by the Office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE) are currently authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to provide translation services.

Please be informed that these companies generally charge for these services. You will need to contact each company directly to obtain their pricing. The translating of educational records is not reimbursable by the City of McAllen.

A listing of these sources is provided for you by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). The selection of a particular vendor is completely up to the person requesting these (translation) services.

The City of McAllen cannot recommend a specific vendor.

For further information on credential translation services, please contact NACES at info@naces.org or IACE at info@aice-eval.org or visit their websites at www.naces.org or AICE at info@aice-eval.org or visit their website at www.aice-eval.org.

IV. HOME SCHOOL EDUCATION

Individuals schooled at home will need to provide sufficient records (i.e., original syllabus, transcripts, grades and educational plan) to substantiate a high school equivalency education. These documents will be used by the employer to assess the applicant's abilities, skills, and educational capabilities.

Failure to provide such documentation may disqualify an applicant from meeting the City's educational requirements.

This concludes the segment related to educational credentialing. If you have any questions regarding your education credentials as it relates to securing employment with the City of McAllen, please call the Human Resources Department at (956) 681-1045.
