The McAllen Convention Center will host the first concert of their 2014 free outdoor concert series. Sunset Sessions is a free outdoor concert series featuring local, regional and touring musicians. The concert series takes place at the McAllen Convention Center Oval Park the second Saturday of each month. The next concert is Saturday, April 12thth. The event is available to people of all ages. Wine sampling, a variety of craft-brewed Texas beers and festival food will be available for purchase. In addition to great entertainment, there will also be a variety of arts and crafts exposing local artisans.
This month’s lineup will include many power voices. Co-headlining the show is Latasha Lee & the Blackties. Latasha recently performed at SXSW as well as Austin City Limits Music Festival. Latasha who has always admired Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke, Gladys Knight, Etta James and Otis Reddings, new her sound must contain the essence of these artist. In 2012 Latasha made it to the top 50 spot on the television show X-Factor. Her music along with her soulful voice cuts cleanly and crisply through the genre clutter with a groove that slices directly to the heart with honest power. This is music with teeth, heart, soul and big brass balls.
Coined the "Tina Turner of jazz" due to her long legs, fierce hair, and aggressive vocal stylings, Tameca Jones is a rare creature--an Austin, TX musician actually born and raised in the musical city. Since embarking on her mission to put her unique and soulful spin on covers in 2008, she has taken the local scene by storm with her potpourri of jazz, blues, rock, and soul. She opened for Gary Clark Jr., BB King, Smokey Robinson, David Sanborn and Joey Defrancesco, Oleta Adams, Take 6, Al Di Meola, Robert Cray, Ruben Studdard, and many other notable artists.
Other performers include Austin based Anna Milk and locals Isaac & the Gentlemen.
