The City of McAllen Transit Department hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday Sept. 10, 2014 to celebrate the completion of the Downtown Park-n-Ride located at 101 S. Bicentennial. The facility is designed to help ease traffic congestion in McAllen’s Downtown area.
“We are excited about the completion of this project. This Park-n-Ride facility will truly make parking more convenient for those who visit our Downtown. Additionally, the facility will be linked to our Public Transit System which will provide additional transportation options for our citizens” said City of McAllen Transit Director Mario Delgado.
The City of McAllen is utilizing a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Capital Grant to subsidize 80 percent of the costs associated with the Park-n-Ride. The facility will serve as a stop for two of Metro McAllen’s fixed routes, as well as for the Trolley Route that operates Downtown on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. - 3 a.m. allowing individuals to cross to and from the Entertainment District free of charge.
The facility has solar lit shelter amenities as well as bike racks and comfortable seating. Additionally, this facility has been identified as a future site for a bike share station.
