by Public Information Office | Sep 11, 2014

The McAllen Fire Department is assisting their firefighters in the McAllen Stair Climb ’14 on Sunday, September 14th at 7:00 a.m. at Neuhaus Tower.  Funds will go to Tuesday’s Children and the Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force which helps a firefighter’s family if a firefighter dies in the line of duty.

Participants in McAllen’s Stair Climb will climb the 17 floors at the Neuhaus Tower.  The climbers will have to hike the stairs six and a half times to reach a total of 110 floors.  Firefighters will be remembering the 343 New York City firefighters who died on Sept. 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center (WTC).  The WTC had 110 floors.  Each participant will wear a picture of one of the firefighters who died on 9/11.

Firefighters will also have a ceremony in remembrance of those lost on 9/11 before the stair climb challenge starts.  The entire community is invited to attend the service and cheer on the participants.
