PHARR — As part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept. 14-20, TxDOT is demonstrating the proper ways to install safety seats and reminding drivers to make an appointment for free child safety seat checks year round at the agency’s 25 statewide district offices.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates nearly 3 out of 4 child safety seats are not used correctly. Additionally, a recently released study by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute reports nearly 40 percent of children riding in Texas vehicles are either improperly buckled or not buckled at all.
TxDOT also reminds drivers to visit www.SaveMeWithASeat.com to find out what type of safety seat their child needs or find the location of the nearest child safety seat check station by texting the word “seat” and their ZIP code to 876526.
In McAllen, free car seat inspection at the Kohl's Store, 7900 N. 10th Street, Saturday, September 20th from 10 am to 12 pm noon.
