Broadway Park and Ride Grand Opening

The City of McAllen Transit Department will be hosting the Grand Opening of its South Broadway Park and Ride Facility that is be located at 717 S Broadway Street.  The South Broadway Park-n-Ride facility is designed to help alleviate congestion in McAllen’s Downtown as well as provide additional parking options for patrons of Downtown, whether it be for shopping, work, or entertainment needs.

 
“We are excited that the project is complete.  This Park and Ride facility should truly make parking more convenient for those wishing to visit our Downtown McAllen, not to mention linking the facility to our Public Transit System, as well as Bike Share, which will provide additional transportation options for our citizens” said City of McAllen Transit Director Mario Delgado.  

Back in August 2013, the City of McAllen was awarded a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Capital Grant.  Part of the funds awarded under this grant will be utilized to subsidize the Park and Ride Facility.  The estimated cost of the facility is $212,656.20 of which the FTA grant will cover 80%   

 

The facility will serve as a Park-n-Ride Stop for route 4 of Metro McAllen’s fixed routes. The facility has solar lit shelters, two bike racks, five benches, LED parking lot lighting.  Additionally, this facility is the future site for a Bike Share Station.
