McAllen
- McAllen is ranked at the top once again. This time it’s for the transformation of an abandoned Walmart into the most beautiful library in Texas.

To find the most beautiful libraries in each state, Tech Insider looked at past and current award-winners as judged by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Library Association (ALA) awards.

“I am honored that Tech Insider listed McAllen Public Library as the most beautiful library in Texas,” said Library Director Kate Horan. “This spacious facility has allowed us to expand services to our citizens, and the citizens have responded by making MPL their home base. As we near our 5-year anniversary, I’m prouder than ever to serve as Library Director.”

The 123,000 sq.ft McAllen Public Library, the largest single floor public library in the nation, sees an average of 60,000 visitors each month. Library amenities include: 16 meeting spaces, 116 computers, a café, teen area, an expanded children’s area and a collection of 355,794 items.
