(McAllen, TX) – The City of McAllen held a special election for registered voter residents of McAllen City Commission District 1, today, Saturday, January 20, 2018, to fill the unexpired term of District 1 Commissioner Richard Cortez who resigned to run for another office. Early voting for this office was held from January 3, 2018 – January 16, 2018.

Results are unofficial until they are canvassed by the McAllen City Commission. A date has yet to be set for that canvassing.
There was not an outright winner since no candidate received the 50%+1 required to win. Since no candidate received the majority, there will be a run-off. The date will be set to avoid conflicting with the Hidalgo County primary elections.
