McAllen– McAllen City Commissioners have agreed to hold public comments from citizens before the official start of the McAllen City Commission meetings. The public comments will be held at 4:45 p.m., citizens will have an opportunity to sign up during the Commission workshop, which begin at 4:00 p.m. and will then adjourn for the public comment period. City Commission meetings will start officially at 5:00 p.m.
While citizens can make comments during the public hearings in the meeting, those comments are only relative to that hearing item. The McAllen City Commission provided for citizens’ public comments to be heard at the end of the regular Commission meeting. The change came from a request by District 2 Commissioner Joaquin “J.J.” Zamora, who asked that the McAllen City Attorney’s Office consider moving up the public comments portion.
The public comments will not be televised on the City of McAllen MCN Ch. 12 (Spectrum 95.12).
Citizens can sign up in person with the City Secretary’s representative during the workshop. Citizens will have to fill out a comment card and include their name and contact information and the topic they wish to speak on. All citizens will have a time limit of three minutes.
