Financial conference will look at various issues unique to border economy; to be held during annual MXLAN cultural arts and music festival
The City of McAllen is excited to announce the upcoming MXLAN International Economic Summit, scheduled to take place at the McAllen Convention Center on Friday, May 3, 2024. The event aims to highlight the South Texas region’s unique geographical position, cultural dynamics and explore the significant impact it has on international commerce and trade. The discussions sparked and connections made during this landmark conference is designed to reshape economic and cultural perspectives through insightful dialogue and collaboration about how economic activities within McAllen resonate globally, making it a crucial center for international commerce.
This year’s summit is proud to feature Dr. Belinda Román, an associate professor of economics at St. Mary's University in San Antonio and recently recognized by The Wall Street Journal as the most accurate economist of 2024. Dr. Román will join a distinguished lineup of keynote speakers, including Dr. Duncan Wood and Erika Martínez Mott, to deliver vital perspectives on the economic interplay between Mexico and the United States.
Dr. Duncan Wood is renowned for his expertise in supply chain policy, critical minerals geopolitics, and U.S.-Mexican political relations. Erika Martínez Mott, with over two decades at Grupo Estrategia Política (GEP), brings her deep knowledge in political consultancy and strategic information monitoring, influencing multiple industry sectors across Mexico.
The summit will also host two significant panels:
- Investing in Educated Human Capital: Featuring higher education leaders from the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, South Texas College, and Texas A&M University, this panel will explore the crucial role of higher education in driving economic innovation and growth.
- Future of Banking in the RGV: Including top executives from Lone Star National Bank, Plains Capital Bank, IBC, and Texas Regional Bank, this panel will discuss emerging trends and the future outlook of banking within the region.
