Bicentennial Blvd. Lane Reduction in Preparation for McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by H-E-B

Closures begin Friday morning, various phases leading up to the parade

As the City of McAllen prepares for the 2024 McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by H-E-B and powered by Bert Ogden & Fiesta Dealerships, residents are reminded that continued   lane and road closures along Bicentennial Blvd. and 23rd St., from La Vista Ave. to Pecan Blvd. are necessary for the safety of the participants and over 265,000 attendees. Road closures will begin on Friday and continue in phases through Saturday around McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium. 

Additionally, City of McAllen Parks & Recreation, Traffic and Engineering staff are currently working diligently to prepare the parade route and ask for patience by motorists traveling along Bicentennial Blvd.

Starting Fri., Dec. 6, 2024 at 9:00 a.m., the outer lanes along Bicentennial Blvd., from La Vista Avenue to Pecan Blvd., will be closed. Additionally, a 6:00 p.m. full closure of Bicentennial Blvd. between the same limits will follow. Additional closures along Bicentennial Blvd. and 23rd St. will continue in phases throughout the day Sat., Dec. 7, leading up to the parade start time.  This section of Bicentennial Blvd. will reopen on Sunday, December 8, at 1:00 p.m.

Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time or to find alternate routes to avoid congestion in the area.

Attendees to Christmas in the Park and McAllen Holiday Park should take the free Polar Express Park & Ride starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. Attendees can park at South Texas College on Pecan Boulevard and take the City of McAllen Polar Express buses that will drop them off along 23rd St. at Quince Ave.  Strollers, wheel chairs, picnics and service animals are allowed. 

The Polar Express Park & Ride will continue through 12:00 a.m.
