McALLEN
Fire Marshal’s Office
McAllen Fire Department currently operates under the International Code Council family of codes. McAllen City Commission has adopted the 2018 International Fire Code. The Fire Marshal’s Office currently offers a wide variety of services to our citizens. We conduct fire sprinkler and fire alarm plan reviews, plat and subdivision reviews; fire inspections, building permit reviews, public educational training and fire investigations.
Administrative Rulings
McAllen Fire Marshal’s Office understands that sometimes the International Fire Code is not clear with some of their code requirements and often do not align with the current jurisdiction. Therefore, the need for administrative rulings to clear up code confusion and provide guidance is required. The following administrative ruling are currently in effect with the City of McAllen, TX as it pertains to fire department requirements:
Non-Compliant Notices for Fire Protection Equipment
Starting January 18, 2024, McAllen Fire Department will be transitioning to Tyler Technologies for the administration of non-compliant/repair notices for Fire Sprinkler, Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression Systems. This move will require the fire protection contractor to pay a fee for the submission of each inspection/repair report via Tyler Technologies. In order to submit an inspection/repair notice, the fire protection contractor will need to login and create an account on the Tyler Technologies website.
The following link will take you to the Tyler Technologies website where you can create an account and login.

In addition, the following file will guide you accessing the Tyler Technology website and help you navigate the process in creating a successful account.
McAllen Fire Department will no longer accept postmarked, emailed, faxed, or hand delivered notices. All non-compliant notices and repair notices will now have to go thru Tyler Technologies website.
Third Party Review for Fire Sprinkler Plans
Since February 14, 2006, McAllen Fire Department (Fire Marshal’s Office) has required the review of fire sprinkler plans by a third party reviewer such as ISO, Factory Mutual or an independent fire protection engineer firm. The review by a third party reviewer applies to fire protections system with more than one riser or is a high hazard occupancy. The third party review report, along with the reviewed fire sprinkler plans will then need to be submitted to our office in order to obtain a fire permit.
Below you will find a list of firms that review fire sprinkler plans and provide a summary report. This list is compiled as a courtesy to the fire protection contractor and not as approved firms from our office:
