Appointed by the McAllen-Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridge Boards, Juan Olaguibel is the Superintendent of Bridges overseeing McAllen International Bridge Systems as of June 8, 2020. December 13, 2024, promoted to City of McAllen Assistant City Manager. Mr. Olaguibel served as Director of Operations for the McAllen Bridge System for 10 years.
Additionally, Mr. Olaguibel manages the McAllen EB-5 Regional Center. Under direct supervision of the President of the McAllen EB-5 Regional Center, Isaac Tawil., the McAllen EB-5 Regional Center is committed to delivering a secure pathway to investors seeking Lawful Permanent Residencies in the United States for their families through the EB-5 Immigrant and Investor Program.
Mr. Olaguibel is a native of Mexico City, Mexico, with a distinct expertise in finance, international trade and public relations. While serving as a Bank Executive for Wells Fargo, Mr. Olaguibel earned many awards and accolades for his distinguished accomplishments.
Aside from his operational knowledge of running an efficient, safe and profitable bridge system, Juan's diplomacy in dealing with multiple levels of government in both the United States and Mexico is key to assuring the McAllen-Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridges are positioned as key players within the continued growth and expansion of trade with Mexico, the United States largest trading partner.
As Director of Operations for the McAllen Bridge system, Juan implemented new policy and procedures that maximized cash controls, analyzed and evaluated performances of the department's operations efficiencies which led to the reduction of tasks while maximizing time. The results were a reduction in operative and administrative expenses.
Mr. Olaguibel successfully facilitated a lucrative real estate contract with the United States Federal Government on behalf of the City of McAllen, City of Hidalgo and McAllen-Hidalgo Bridge Board which will generate over $31 million in revenue to the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge. Over the past 14 years he has been working with both Customs & Border Protection and General Services Administration to upgrade the facility. Northbound Pedestrian project completed in 2024 has doubled the number of pedestrian booths from five to ten and will help expedite travelers into the U.S. more efficiently.
In addition to working closely with the various Mexican Federal Agencies to modify hours of operation for southbound commercial trucks at the Anzalduas International Bridge, he has maintained excellent relationships with theMexican Department of State and other key federal transit and communicational agencies, as well as with the governments of the State of Tamaulipas, State of San Luis Potosi and the State of Nuevo Leon.
Mr. Olaguibel has successfully managed to have both the US and Mexico State Department execute diplomatic letters allowing the full cargo project at Anzalduas Bridge to proceed.
His current major project is the construction of full cargo facilities to expedite trade and commerce at the Anzalduas International Bridge.
Mr. Olaguibel graduated from the University of Texas-RGV with a Bachelor's degree in International Business and a Master's degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Olaguibel is married to Rebecca and is a proud parent of three sons.
